pay cuts, pay raises

While some teams are struggling to stay alive others are stepping up and footing the bill.

I have been hearing a couple of things and thought I will put it out there. If you have any more info, leave a comment.

Some masters next year will be paid to race. I am assuming the $ will be small compared to the big leagues but it is more than what i will get for racing. I think it is all good and I would do it too. How nice to get a bit of dough and go race your bike for it. Awesome!

2 for 2

Once again I made it to the church with the group, but not after some extra suffering.

The pace has been very light lately and I am actually surprised. All I remember from last year is me riding by myself with some other dingle berries, but for the last two weeks I have been able to stay with the lead group.

It might be that the size of the group and peloton dynamics is helping me jump form group to group, but the point is that I am finally making it to the sprint.

Southridge 17th annual MTB XC RACE

taking second over all in the So Cal Mtb series and finishing the Southridge winter series in first place is not a bad place to be right about now. I race in Sport 25-29 and am moving up to Expert/ Cat1 next year.  The competition will be fierce and the distance longer!

With the Southridge winter series coming to a close in just a couple of weeks I am glad that the season is over. I learned a lot this year on what to do and what not to do in regards to training and racing. I am racing for a podium finish, but with rival competitor Justin Mann also racing i know i am gonna my work cut out for me. I think there will be a larger field because this is also the final race the the SC VELO/ Incycle triple crown. Last week i had the opportunity to see Justin race and he looks like he is at the top of his game.

Thanks to everyone that supports all the local mountain bike series without all of us this could not happen and thanks to all the sponsors that also help put these events on! SC Velo, Incycle, Cannondale You guys ROCK!

Swamis this weekend

I can't believe its november.... only 14 weeks left until VOS.... I know, I am paranoid. This week we were supposed to join the 45+ squad on the swamis ride. Got there with some time to spare and it seems that a lot of people got the note. I chatted with some SDBC CAT4/5 and they were out in force. Its good to see them show up for a ride other than their own ;-) It will make everyone stronger. So we gather in front of BL and the names start to drop... the heavy-hitters.... Chris Horner, Neil Shirley, Cody Stevenson, James and some other local guys that could really put the hurt down. Things started pretty mellow and they stayed that way for most of the way until some anxious legs started to turn a bit quicker. I was a bit worried because I knew that any moment things could change. Now the worst part... Things did not change. It stayed slow enough that i could not negotiate with my body on how/when to quit the ride/pace. I hate when that happens. It usually is pretty predictable. Slow until it goes fast and that is within 6 mile so BL and then I am on my own and everyone sees me staggering in. Not this week... they freaking held a pace that I could actually manage, so I had to suffer all the way to the church. It hurt, but at the same time it was nice. Looking at the power levels I had a pretty good ride. 5 and 30 minute numbers were equal to the best race of last year, so that is good. Next week might try the long route. Right now its about 83 miles, long route adds another 57... I am usually pretty pooped after that.. we will see.

Quick entry

Just saw that  there is an application for the iPhone that will map rides.

It was released under MapMyRide, the famous website. I heard this weekend that there would be an app for the iPhone, but I am sure that these are two completely different applications.

The platform is amazing, the only killer thing is that the lifespan of the battery on the iPhone cannot keep up with the amount of riding that some people might do.  3 hours just isn't enough time.

Shock the system - part 1

This weekend I started my training.

Saturday, Swamis, small group with 2 motivated riders. James and Karl went  hard enough to evaporate my chances of making it to the church with the group... so close. Special note here, they added a new stop light on dump hill.... I LOVE IT! Gives me the chance to catch back on... it won't always be red, but at least it increases my chance of sticking with the group.

Ended up riding 88 miles as my first ride back in training... maybe a bit too much, but oh well.

Local cycling scene next year

Everybody knows that the last couple of months have been really rough in the market.

I have been thinking of what consequences there will be to the local racer and there are many issues that might affect us. Couple of things I could come up with were the slow down in the economy, hike in gas prices and probably a lower disposable income.

I am not quite sure if people will be racing more next year. My concensus is that people will target their A, B, C races better, thus making certain events more competitive than others.

We are happy to announce the launching of an all new event calendar. The calendar features cycling events from around the world. Events from the UCI, USA Cycling and most local organizations will be represented. CyclingNutz guests and members can browse by category or search using keywords. This will allow easy access to all events in the database.

Members and guests can comment on all events and will be able to rate events in the near future. The rating system will allow both fans and participants a chance to tell the world their thoughts on the event.

We encourage all event promoters to contact us concerning inclusion of your events on Cyclingnutz. Events can be submitted by members for inclusion in the Events Calendar. Promoters can send updates and corrections for existing events using the Contact Us page.

Late report/entry/babbling….

My start time was 8:10 or something close to that so I was good on time…. well, so I thought. Woke up too late and rushed everything int he car. it felt like I had to race up north or I was going to a stage race but with no pre-planning. I had packed my road bike to go for a short ride after the TT so EVERYTHING was in my car.

Get there with 1 minute to spare and my TT bike was dangling of my car… my rack needs to be replaced… almost did not have a bike to ride the damn thing.

Tour of California

Went on a coffee ride this morning and caught up with some people. It was a nice ride and especially since it was just me and a teammate... no group rides, no crazy stuff.... just the right amount of ASS kicking.... hahahahahah... I am joking. In any case, the biggest thing that I came across today was that the whole Tour of California, USA Cycling, AEG and super wealthy cycling enthusiasts rode the SoCal section of next year's Tour of California. I wish I had gotten a heads up on it, I would have loved to joined it.. not sure if it was invitation only, but I know the streets are public, so there you go!!!! I am getting excited to see these guys come down to SD county next year.... I mean in 3 months.... I wonder how their training is going. Right now all I can think about is bombing so bad at tomorrow's TT that I might have to enter the witness protection plan... and Jenny Craig too....
