New electronic Dura-Ace

Did some reading on the new Dura-Ace electronic shifting.

I have to say that it looks really nice. The pieces are "Robocop" looking. Reading Cyclingnews' review I wonder what they meant by saying the bike will feel lighter with the newly designed and lighter shifters.... I doubt I will ever be able to sense a weight reduction of 155 grams... C'mon folks, we are talking Stones when you talk about weight... at least in my case.

One other point is that the brakes will not be battery powered. Smart decision and that leads me to wonder how reliable this new grouppo will be. I know they did all the testing and lots of folks have ridden on them on big races, BUT if people like you and me were to get our hands on one of those puppies - ride on it for 2-3 years, would they hold up?

Between the 11-speed Campy and this new Dura-Ace I think I might have to pass on both. One becomes a compatibility nightmare and the other might leave me ridign a single speed....

I guess these are just my thoughts on these new  parts. Once I see them I might change my opinion...

Best solution is to get both!

Yes both!

First off I'm a Mavic Mektronic ex-user, till the FCC F-ed up the frequency ranges, which I have no idea what to in 2004, and pretty much ruined it for me. I guess I need a Faraday cage around my bike for it to work now. Anyway, its da bomb! I'd say worry about the batteries going about as much as you worry about your electronic ignition system in your car going. Then again, the worse case you have to stop at 7-11 for a new battery (they use the same batteries found at 7-11, or they better! At least my Mektronic did.), blow a cable, well if its not a bike shop you equally hosed, mister single speed. At any rate failures asside, it will shift like budda! It will be stealthy quiet, and hopefully will have some remote sensors so you can shift away from the brake levers. The front being electronic is probably a waste as its not like you really want to pay the weight price to have a good enough motor to shift it. The rear electronic shifter is the way to go, hopefully you can get the rear only? Well it being ShimanNO, I can't buy it, sorry! Get someone else to beta test it for you.

11 Speed, what like you're not dreaming of getting it. Its the re-introduction of Campy Super-Record, you gotta get it, no questions about it! Wait and you'll just be the only one without it. I just which the Campy Electronic 11 Speed Super Record gets out ASAP!!!!!!

I wonder how quiet it might shift though... that might certainly make it a bit more popular among some of the riders....

I wish they would hurry up and come up with an electric system that works. My fingers are so sore from all the shifting this weekend smilies/wink.gif, The whole thing just seems like a solution looking for a problem.

Well DMunsonPhoto, I'm sure your hands are tired from other things you're busy with. People like you are the reasons they still sell down tube shifters, this way you're hands are in the shape they need to be for the task they perform. smilies/tongue.gif
