Late report/entry/babbling….

My start time was 8:10 or something close to that so I was good on time…. well, so I thought. Woke up too late and rushed everything int he car. it felt like I had to race up north or I was going to a stage race but with no pre-planning. I had packed my road bike to go for a short ride after the TT so EVERYTHING was in my car.

Get there with 1 minute to spare and my TT bike was dangling of my car… my rack needs to be replaced… almost did not have a bike to ride the damn thing.

In any case. I had also signed a rower friend up. I wanted to see how he would do and how much we would suffer.. I knew he would be in for a rude awakening so that was the point of me “gifting” him an entry to the event….

We warmed-up for a little bit and he went off before me. My time is up.

Side note here, I read a really good article on TT and I tried to follow it to the T. Apparently it worked pretty good, or well enough to attain what i wanted. This TT served as the benchmark for next year’ TTs and I need to work on it based on yesterday’ performance.

It was your typical 20km but the wind was deceptively present. Times were just a tad slower than ideal conditions, but it was still manageable. My heart rate was in check the whole time and i slowly worked into it… to be honest, the week before I did a mock TT and I could only get 1 lap out at the desired speed… that is why I was preparing myself for the worse.

I won’t deny, I suffered but I also did a good job of managing the energy expenditure and controlling my body. I averaged 177 for my HR and that was 4 beats down from the TTT, which was much longer. I also managed to go just 1 second above my PR. I mean, it is no world-record but I did get that PR in february, which is after a whole winter of strength training and TT friendly workouts. So that is all good.

So by the numbers, 20km, 28 minutes 30 seconds, 26.16mph average speed, 177 av HR.

I am shooting for VOS next year and I KNOW that I will have to be riding the equivalent to a 27.5mph on fiesta island to be in the top 20. I think i can do that, based on past rowing experiences, but only time will tell… come february I might be an emotional mess… we’ll
